In the wintertime, in Mongolia’s capital, temperatures regularly drop below -30°C at night.

Old infrastructure and pipes used to cause temporary outages in various parts of Ulaanbaatar. When the heating failed, many citizens suffered. As part of our EBRD Green Cities Programme, we teamed up with the European Union to support Ulaanbaatar with a US$10 million loan and a grant of €4,847,100, respectively.

The project was also supported by Japan and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance.
