EBRD President Chakrabarti to visit Egypt

EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti will visit Egypt on Saturday 23 November for high-profile meetings and participation in the Investment for Africa forum in the country’s new administrative capital.

President Chakrabarti will speak on a panel about “Boosting shared prosperity and economic growth”. During the forum he will also meet the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr.

Ahead of his mission, the EBRD President, said: “We welcome the goal of the Investment for Africa forum, which is the promotion of inclusive and sustainable growth across the African continent.”

He added: “The EBRD is committed to supporting the government of Egypt in its development priorities and reform effort. The Bank’s business in Egypt is growing steadily. We are promoting sustainability and helping to forge strong links within countries and cross border here and in the other economies where we invest.  ”

The EBRD delegation at the forum will include Janet Heckman, EBRD Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region, and Khalid Hamza, EBRD Deputy Head for Egypt. Several project signings are planned during the visit.

Egypt is a founding member of the EBRD. Since the start of its operations there in 2012 the Bank has invested over €5.5 billion in 102 projects in the country. In 2018 Egypt was the EBRD’s largest economy in which it invests, in terms of new commitments.
