New episode of the EBRD podcast available for download
The latest episode of the Pocket Economics podcast looks at women’s struggle to secure the same opportunities as men to secure finance, establish and lead businesses, take part in decision making and enjoy equal and safe access to public services.
The EBRD’s Chief Counsellor for Social Issues and the Director of its Gender team, Michaela Bergman, also discusses the importance of gender equality in encouraging economic growth.
“Gender equality does not mean that women and men are equal. It means that they have the same access to opportunities and the same opportunities to exercise their rights” she tells Jonathan Charles, EBRD Managing Director, Communications.
Gender equality is not just a core social objective, it is also smart economics, Ms Bergman says.
And yet cultural and legal barriers often stand in the way of women and their efforts to participate in the economy.
