Managing Director, Communications (observer status)
Richard Porter is Managing Director of the EBRD's Communications Department.
He joined the Bank in 2017 and has held both internal and external communications roles. Prior to his current role, he was Director of Strategic Engagement and Planning, with responsibility for media relations, digital communications and donor visibility.
Before joining the EBRD, Mr Porter worked for many years as a journalist and executive at BBC News. He was Controller of English Services for the BBC’s Global News Division, overseeing the BBC World Service, BBC World News and the BBC’s international website, BBC.com/news. In his role as Editorial and Digital Director for BBC Global News Ltd, he was also responsible for the BBC’s commercially funded news services outside the United Kingdom, working with partners in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Previously, he had many years’ experience as an Editor and leader at BBC News, including as Head of News for BBC World and as Editor of Breakfast TV in the UK.
Mr Porter trained as a journalist in local newspapers in southern England before joining the BBC in its Bristol studios. He was a Sulzberger Fellow at Columbia Journalism School in 2009.
He has observer status on the Bank’s Executive Committee.
