Request summary
On 29 May 2024, the Biodiversity Research and Conservation Center Community Trust from Kazahstan submitted a complaint to IPAM regarding KAZREF II - Shokpar Wind (52946). Requesters are raising concerns regarding risk of collusion of threatened species of birds with the wind turbines. Additionally, the Request alleges that the project was inappropriately assigned as category B, and missed to assess potential project impacts on biodiversity.
The Request was originally received by the AIIB in May 2024 which was then forwarded to IPAM under the mutual reliance agreement between EBRD and AIIB. The Request was then suspended by IPAM on 17 of July 2024 to allow EBRD management and the Client to engage with the Requesters to try and address the concerns. During the suspension, IPAM monitored the status of Parties’ engagement and decided to register the Request as the issues raised haven’t been resolved.
