What is green growth and why does it matter?

Author: Cecilia Calatrava

New episode of Pocket Economics podcast

In the new episode of our ‘Pocket Economics’ podcast, we discuss ‘green growth’, an idea at the very heart of the development agenda and central to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

But can growth be clean and is environmental protection compatible with continued global economic growth?

“When we talk about green growth, we’re not implying a big a departure from the way we measure growth at the moment, but we’re adding a few new adjectives: it is growth that is low carbon, biodiverse and climate resilient. It involves clean air, clean water and inclusiveness for all parts of society,” says our guest speaker Sam Fankhauser, Professor at the LSE and Co-Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.

How are economies put on a path to green growth? And which countries are leading the green race?

Listen to Sam Fankhauser in conversation with Vanora Bennett.
