Mark Davis

Managing Director, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean

Mark Davis was appointed EBRD Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region in October 2024, and is based in Cairo.

He joined the EBRD as Head of Armenia in 2013. During his tenure, he led the expansion of the Bank’s local business, contributed significantly to the creation of the Armenian Private Equity Fund, and helped deepen local capital markets. Later, as Adviser to the Vice President of Banking, Mr Davis co-authored the Bank’s Strategic Review, approved by the EBRD Board of Directors in early 2019, which was an important underpinning of the Bank’s Strategic and Capital Framework 2020-25. In 2018, Mr Davis was appointed as Regional Director for Bulgaria and Romania and, in 2023, became Regional Director for Central Europe, covering Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.

Before joining the EBRD, Mr Davis was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs in Moscow, having previously worked for Morgan Stanley as an Executive Director in London. He began his career at the World Bank in Washington, DC and various locations in Europe and central Asia, where he was a Senior Country Economist and Adviser.

Mr Davis holds a PhD in Economics from Tulane University, New Orleans.
