Jelena Madir

Jelena Madir joined the EBRD as Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer in October 2023.

Before this appointment, Ms Madir was General Counsel of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Prior to joining Gavi in 2019, she spent nearly 11 years at the EBRD, where she worked as a transactional lawyer. She also headed the Financial Law Unit – a unit focused on regulatory reforms in the areas of corporate governance, fintech, insolvency and access to finance – and was seconded to the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer and the Bank of England.

Before joining the EBRD, Ms Madir worked as a finance lawyer for several US law firms in Washington, DC, Frankfurt and Zagreb.

In 2021, Ms Madir was named Attorney of the Year by The American Lawyer and, in 2022, she was named Innovative Leader - In House by Law.com. Ms Madir is the author and editor of several books on fintech, healthtech and sanctions by multilateral development banks. She has served on the sanctions panels of the Nordic Investment Bank and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation.

Ms Madir holds a BA from Dartmouth College, a Juris Doctor, Law degree from Columbia University School of Law and a PhD in Law from the University of Westminster.
