Chief Operating Officer, Client Services and Managing Director, Industry, Commerce and Agribusiness
Jean-Marc Peterschmitt is Chief Operating Officer for the EBRD's Client Services Group, where he oversees the Bank's activities in the enterprise sector across all countries of operation, collaborating with five EBRD Directors in the manufacturing and services, agribusiness, property and tourism, information and communications technology, and natural resources sectors, as well as the Managing Director in charge of SME finance and development.
He also supports the First Vice President, Client Services Group, in the design, execution and supervision of relevant managerial and business issues across the Client Services Group (Banking and Policy and Partnerships)
Until August 2021, Mr Peterschmitt was interim Managing Director for Corporate Strategy, responsible for formulating corporate strategy, advising the President on strategic options for the Bank, developing the Bank’s core strategic documents, managing relationships with other international financial institutions and leading on cross-departmental special initiatives.
He joined the EBRD in London in 1992. After an initial period in the municipal infrastructure and Western Balkans country teams, he became Country Head for Bulgaria in 1998, based in Sofia. He returned to HQ in 2001 as Director for the Western Balkans, before joining the Financial Institutions group in 2004, as Director for Bank Relationships and, in 2009, as Financial Institutions Director for the European Union and Ukraine.
In 2011, Mr Peterschmitt became Managing Director for Central and South-Eastern Europe, responsible for leading the Bank’s operations in 17 countries in central and south-eastern Europe. In 2014, he was appointed Managing Director for all Countries of Operation and Chief Operating Officer for Banking.
Before joining the EBRD, Mr Peterschitt worked at the French Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
A French national, Mr Peterschmitt studied Agricultural Engineering in Paris and has an MBA from INSEAD.
