Bosch - One for the road

The 9th largest car market in Europe, Ukraine is looking to develop auto services. Bosch, the leading German spare parts manufacturer, seized the opportunity and with EBRD finance established a network of licensed service centres in Ukraine.

Skopje bypass opened

The western side of an 11km section of the Skopje bypass, which will alleviate traffic congestion around the Macedonian capital, was opened for traffic today. The project was co-funded by the EBRD with a $40 million loan and the EIB.

A study by the Evaluation Department provides a mid-term review of the Business Advisory Services Programme. The report examines the extent to which the programme is meeting its objectives and makes recommendations to enhance programme performance.

EBRD finance is helping to revive the Silk Road. The refurbishment of the historic Silk Road in Azerbaijan is a strategic project which allows the country to intensify links with international trade flows between Asia and Europe.

New contributions to Chernobyl fund

The G8 members are increasing their contributions to the clean-up of Chernobyl by an additional amount of approximately €62 million. The new pledges come on top of a €135 million donation from the EBRD, which was approved as part of a decision on the use of EBRD's 2007 net income.

Making roads safer

The EBRD is hosting the "Making Roads Safer" international conference. The conference will bring together the World Bank, regional development banks, the EU and leading donor countries to discuss ways of ensuring that all internationally funded road projects in developing countries meet tough criteria for safety assessment and design.

Thomas Mirow, new EBRD President

Thomas Mirow assumes the EBRD presidency. On 19 May 2008, the Board of Governors of the EBRD named Thomas Mirow, the former State Secretary at the German Finance Ministry, as the Bank's fifth President.
