Investing in countries from central Europe to central Asia

Making roads safer

The EBRD is hosting the "Making Roads Safe" international conference. The conference will bring together the World Bank, regional development banks, the EU and leading donor countries to discuss ways of ensuring that all internationally funded road projects in developing countries meet tough criteria for safety assessment and design.

Thomas Mirow, new EBRD President

Thomas Mirow assumes the EBRD presidency. On 19 May 2008, the Board of Governors of the EBRD named Thomas Mirow, the former State Secretary at the German Finance Ministry, as the Bank's fifth President.

Sustainability Report 2007

Sustainability is at the core of all EBRD activities. The newly launched Sustainability Report 2007 demonstrates how the Bank invests and works sustainably across the transition region, and includes a special focus on water and waste water.

Evaluation of the financial sector operation policy

A new study by the Evaluation Department examines the EBRD's financial sector operations policies and financial sector performance. It provides a critical review of the EBRD's activities in this sector, including bank lending, equity funds and TC operations.

The EBRD is donating €135 million of its profits towards international efforts to clean up the Chernobyl nuclear power plant site. Preparations are currently underway for the construction of a New Safe Confinement facility over the damaged reactor 4.
